Pop star and manager Scooter Braun were awarded the Disruptive Innovation Award for challenging industry's traditional gatekeepers.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber and his manager Scooter Braun were at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday (April 27) to accept the 2012 Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Award for disrupting "the traditional gatekeepers of the music industry."

Sporting a varsity jacket when he took the stage, the 18-year-old noted that a lot of what he does is a reflection of his relationship with his fans. "I don't think that I would be here without the Internet. The fans feel connected to me," he said, ABC News reports.

According to The Huffington Post, he recalled his early days of posting videos on YouTube under the moniker KidRauhl and how he was skittish of Braun, initially.

"He called me, and my mom was like, 'Why am I going to trust a guy named Scooter?' " Bieber said. "So she ignored him, and he started calling all of the places where he saw me sing in my videos. ... It was some really creepy stuff. Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.

To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.

According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.

Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).

The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.

It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.

Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Back in October, Beyoncé shot down a rumor that she was wearing a fake baby bump after an appearance on an Australian talk show. When Beyoncé sat down for the interview, it appeared that the bump deflated, prompting many to wonder if the pop singer was really pregnant or faking it.

Now, months after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy, Beyoncé is talking to People magazine, about the gossip. Dressed in all black, with black shades and two braids in his hair, Tha Doggfather shuffled across the stage flanked by three curvaceous female dancers, who started out in Adidas tracksuits but had stripped down to skimpy lingerie by the time Snoop performed Akon's uncensored "I Wanna F--- You," three-quarters of the way through his set.

Snoop's half-hour solo portion of the show was filled with classics like Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" and "Next Episode" as well as his own "Bitch Please" and "Who Am I? (What's My Name?)"

Wiz emerged later to perform his newer rap favorites. Starting with "Cabin Fever," Khalifa bounced across the stage chanting, "If you see her, point her out," acknowledging all the "bad bitches" in the crowd. Most of Wiz's performance was centered around mixtape material. The Taylors gave overwhelming approval and applause as Cap ran through "Gang Bang" and Kush & Orange Juice faves "Never Been" and "In the Cut."

A brief intermission followed, during which scenes from "Mac & Devin Go to High School" played on the venue's big screen. Snoop and Wiz then returned, this time together, performing in tandem and passing joints to and fro. First up was "That Good," the initial collaborative "Mac & Devin" leak, on which Snoop dubs the stoner duo "the new Cheech and Chong." From there, the Dogg launched into his classic "Gin & Juice" while Khalifa served up some ad-libs.

Wiz encouraged his young Taylors to show the elder Snoop love, while the Dogg asked the crowd to congratulate the Pittsburgh breakout on his recent Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance, and the audience happily obliged both requests.

Though the two rocked solo songs like "Drop It Like It's Hot" and "On My Level," by the time Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa reached the show-closing "Young, Wild & Free," their onstage chemistry was undeniable. Though there are a number of years between the two MCs, the duo proved that when it comes to rocking crowds, age ain't nothing but a number.

Have you seen Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa live? Allen Iverson's estranged wife Tawanna is seeking a restraining order as she says the former baller's behavior is "threatening." Deets inside...
We told you earlier that Allen and Tawanna Iverson had reconciled.....well, at least long enough to get it in. But now they're back on the "outs" and Tawanna wants a restraining order.
In new court docs filed, TMZ reports Tawanna reported Allen for harassing her and her family as he "has engaged in increasingly contemptuous, threatening, and disturbing behavior."
So now, Tawanna wants a restraining order and she's accusing Allen of hiding money from her. Sigh....we will keep you posted. But am I the only one who wants to see these two on next season of VH1's "Couples Therapy"?

'I'm fascinated by her,' Cowell says of singer, who's rumored to be contender to join show.

There are several women's names currently being tossed around as potential judges for the upcoming season of "X Factor." Avril Lavigne, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears are the leading rumored contenders to replace Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul for the show's completely revamped second season, which kicks off later this year.

In a recent press call, Simon Cowell would not confirm who producers were talking to, but he did not deny that Jackson was on the table.

"You can probably count on two girls," fellow judge L.A. Reid added. "That we can confirm."

Cowell recently addressed the Britney buzz on Billy Bush's radio show, continuing to play coy about the chatter. "Well, I'm fascinated by her. The fact that she's still one of the most talked-about — not just pop stars, but people — in the world today means that you've got this star power. This girl's got resilience, and the fact that she's survived this and she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial ... there's a reason for that.

"I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, this is a walk in the park," he added, noting that he believes she would be a good judge.

While Cowell seems to be dancing around the issue, British "X Factor" judge Louis Walsh may have let the cat out of the bag in an interview on U.K. talk show "Craig Doyle Live." He shared that Spears was indeed talking to producers about possibly joining the show.

"I know he is talking to Britney. I know he's definitely talking to Britney to do the American show. Absolutely true and maybe Janet Jackson," he said.

In the end, Cowell summed up the current spate of rumors on that conference call. "There's a load of speculation, some true, some not true. It's true to say that a lot more people have entered the frame this year. We were waiting to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people," he said last week. "We're in that place right now, which is a good place to be in. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks, mainly to explain to them that this is a big commitment when you do a show like this because of the mentoring aspect."

Pop star's post-workout tweet criticized by eating-disorder association.
By John Mitchell

What was clearly intended as a jokey tweet lamenting the rigorous diet and exercise routine she is currently undertaking to prepare for her 110-date Born This Way Ball has put Lady Gaga in the crosshairs of some angry fans and eating-disorder organizations.

On Tuesday, the pop star tweeted, "Just killed back to back spin classes. Why she is being scrutinized for making an observation about something we already know — that celebrities engage in intense fitness regimens to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on their appearance — is kind of a mystery.

But, you know, totally appropriate and necessary reason for outrage, everyone.

Sound off on Gaga's #PopSingersDontEat tweet in the comments below!

"Executive Producer" Shaunie O'Neal is speaking out about what's been happening on "Basketball Wives" lately and she admits that some of the ladies on the show can be "bullies." Shocker. Get the deets inside.......
During a chat with Hip Hollywood, Shaunie O'Neal confirmed what we already know....Evelyn Lozada is a bully. But instead of simply throwing Evelyn under the bus, Shaunie cleaned it up adding that Evelyn is such a "strong" personality that when she is put up against someone like Jennifer, she could seem a bit overwhelming.
As for Tami Roman, Shaunie compared her to Evelyn and said she is a sweetheart. But she added that you might not want to cross her.
But what she left out was if she thinks bullies have the right to lay hands on others. Hmmm.......
Shaunie is going to have to come a little better than that as I'm sure Star Jones and the rest of the ladies gearing up for a boycott aren't going to buy into the whole "strong personality" thing.
At this point, it simply looks like Shaunie is trying to save face and protect her brand. We all know she doesn't have any real creative control over what the show airs, yet she still continues to defend what is broadcast. She released a statement recently saying,
"I'm extremely happy that Basketball Wives continues to have another successful fourth season. As the ratings have been through the roof since our season opener, fans continue to tune into the lives of Evelyn, Tami, Jennifer, Royce, Suzie and myself. As there is always controversy and indifference projected on the show, because we are all individual personalities, I always hope that people will find that as much as you may agree or disagree with the opinions, the behavior, [and] even our different taste in shoes, you are taking a look inside the lives of four complete different women. I will never say I agree with some of the behavior between my girlfriends on the show, but if we were to edit certain things out the show would be scripted and not reality.
As a woman of color with kids, I am very aware of myself, but I also have to be aware that my choices cannot be the same for everyone on the show and I have to respect that. I hope the fans feel they see a balance and know we have always been real with our stories, even though it may not always be a positive portrayal of adult women but real women nonetheless. I look forward to developing other media platforms in the future and hope that fans will continue to support."
Alrighty.

The Cannons are loving it up all around Paris. Nick & Mariah put on their Friday best--all white for the bride & groom 4 times over--this evening in the romantic french city. Check out pics of Nick upgrading his divalicious wife's rock during their vow renewal ceremony inside...
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon renewed their wedding vows for their 4th anniversary at Paris' Plaza Athenee Hotel...and then checked out the Eiffel Tower:
Nick put a beautiful (likely upgraded with even more diamonds) ring on his wife's hand and sealed it with a kiss. Can't be mad at that.
The twosome showed just how in sync they are despite Nick's recent health scares and their lives being turned upside down by the birth of their twins. They rocked matching white formal wear (we'll keep our comments about this looking like 1998 prom photos to ourselves) and looked happier than ever:
After the ceremony, the hubby & wife headed to Le Jules Verne restaurant for dinner and snapped pics in front of the Eiffel Tower:

More than 60 artists perform to 32 songs in a presentation that feels much like a concert with an ensemble of circus-inspired acts elegantly melding together. The stage is two levels with a long peninsula extending into the audience, where the majority of the acrobatics takes place. MJ's famed choreographic style was present in nearly all the numbers, and the audacious task of the performers was well-received by the audience.

The progression of the musical numbers moved seamlessly. The energy kicked into high gear with Jackson-like characters performing "Fanatics Medley" as Jackson 5 — one of them in MJ's signature fedora and another as a gold-suited mime. Jackson's youth was remembered in "Childhood" during which a recording of Jackson's voice referred to his early stardom as he sang, "Have you seen my childhood?/ It's been my fate to compensate/ For the childhood I've never known."

While the moving screens, elaborate stage designs and detailed costumes were impressive, one of the most awe-inspiring moments was witnessing what the human body is capable of during the pole-dancing number. Felix Cane, a two-time world pole-dancing champion, maneuvered in the sky dancing on a pole — with no harness — appropriately performing to "Dangerous," as the audience was captivated by her every move.

Another highlight was "Human Nature," during which the back screens were dominated by Neverland graphics and an image of a young Michael sitting on the moon. In front of the backdrop, a half-dozen artists wrapped in multicolored LED costumes soared through the air in sync, representing the constellations.

"Beat It" got the crowd moving while they watched performers in MJ's signature accessories, including his famous glove and penny loafers, dance in dynamic movement. A rock-infused duel between an electric guitar and electric cello capped the song.

After an elaborate performance to "Black or White," as the night seemed to be over and the audience slowly started spilling into the aisles, the lights illuminated one last time for an encore to "Man in the Mirror." The artists appeared to take a bow in front of exploding fireworks.

Have you seen "Immortal"? Share your review below!

T.I.'s hustle just got a little more grand. Not only is the King of the South gearing up to release his eighth studio album, Trouble Man, Tip is also expanding his Grand Hustle roster, adding new artists at seemingly every turn. His latest addition: Houston street king Trae tha Truth.

Trae and Tip announced the joint venture deal between Grand Hustle and the Houston MC's ABN label Wednesday (February 29) on "RapFix Live."

"We're gonna work alongside each other for a common goal and release this Trae tha Truth project," T.I. said of the deal, which was arrived at the old-fashioned way. "When cats [who are] cut from a certain cloth give their word and shake their hand, that's what makes it a done deal — the ink is just a formality."

The two haven't yet figured out how Trae's upcoming ABN projects will be distributed, however. T.I. is currently signed to Atlantic through Grand Hustle, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Trae's project will travel through the same channels. But Trae doesn't seem overly concerned about the particulars. "Me and Tip are similar in a lot of ways. We both understand what it is," Trae said.

"The thing that kinda made me way more comfortable is he reached out more on a partner note to where it wasn't about money, it wasn't about none of that. It was about, 'Look, we can team up or even if you doin' your own thing, I'm just supporting what you got goin', I want to see you make it.' "

Without the help of a major label, Trae has already carved out his lane in the streets. While he isn't the most popular MC, it's hard to find an artist in the game today who is more respected. His last album, Street King, featured not only underground rappers like Messy Marv and Yo Gotti, but also boasted contributions from the likes of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Big Boi and Wiz Khalifa.

"Grand Hustle is an established brand, ABN is already an established brand, it's about seeing what we can do to parlay what we've already done for ourselves to make it benefit the other and it's a two-way street," T.I. explained.

What do you think of Trae tha Truth and T.I.'s new deal? Pop star said he wrote about his 2011 paternity controversy on the upcoming album.

Sometimes you just have some things to get off your chest.

For teen pop phenom Justin Bieber, one of those things is a paternity suit filed last year by a 20-year-old California woman claiming that a brief bathroom rendezvous with him following an October 2010 concert resulted in her pregnancy.

Rather than ignore the matter, Bieber is confronting it head on with his new album Believe. "That girl — Mariah Yeater — who said she was going to have my baby. I wrote about that situation," Bieber told the BBC of his new album. "Every song has a piece of me... I wrote almost all of them or co-wrote them."

The case, which Yeater dropped in November, has many wondering if Bieber was wise to commit his feelings to something as public and eternal as an album, or if he should have just let go of what was really a minor controversy.

Though few believed them, the rumors introduced Bieber to one of the many pitfalls of celebrity and briefly overwhelmed his press cycle when he was trying to promote his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe. The accusation challenged his family-friendly brand, something family law expert told MTV News could be grounds for a defamation of character suit.

The suit likely weighed heavily on Bieber, regardless of its merit, making it prime material for his songwriting. But does dragging it all back into the public sphere benefit him in any tangible way? His recent tweet about Yeater — which read, "Dear mariah yeeter...we have never met...so from the heart i just wanted to say..." accompanied by an audio clip of Sasha Baron Cohen's character Borat saying, "You will never get this" — was neither subtle nor particularly sophisticated. And since details of the suit were made so public and remain fresh in the minds of his fans, why restart the conversation if there is nothing new to add?

Responding to your own press is a slippery slope for celebrities, and it can do one of two things: clear the air or consume the conversation.

For Madonna and Michael Jackson, it did the former. "Billie Jean," Michael Jackson's classic declaration that he was not the father, was wrapped in a bit of mystery. There have long been contradictory claims that the song is about groupies MJ encountered early in his fame and that it was derived from a real-life experience in which a mentally ill fan claimed that Jackson had fathered her child. But it really doesn't matter; we just know that these accusations were out there, so MJ decided to shut it down with a song.

The difference is, Bieber's controversy is already over and, considering few people ever believed the claims, was never a huge deal to begin with.

Ever an expert at handling the press, Madonna held her head high when she addressed the massive backlash she encountered after she pressed through her sexually charged Erotica-era with a lone song, "Human Nature." She posited that people's anger with her had more to do with their own hang-ups than with her behavior and refused to apologize. Madonna knew she'd struck a nerve and defiantly declared, "Absolutely no regrets."

She dually stood her ground and introduced something new to the conversation. With "Human Nature," Madonna held up a mirror to the public and asked "Is it really my sexuality you are uncomfortable with?"

Bieber needs to pay particular attention to this lest he fall hard into Taylor Swift territory, where the artist is practically expected to directly address the minutia of their private lives in every song.

First, it was Joe Jonas with "Forever & Always," then John Mayer on "Dear John" and Kanye West on "Innocent." It's important, of course, for a singer/ songwriter to write what they know, but there's a reason we only just learned who the subject of Adele's multiplatinum, Grammy-winning 21 was (and why she's never confirmed it).

We want to be able to apply a song's emotion to our own lives, but it's hard to do that when a track is either too specific or too self-indulgent. We haven't heard Bieber's song about Yeater, so we can't speak to whether it is either. If he has something new to say about the controversy — perhaps how it felt to be betrayed by one of his fans — then he may have found a way to turn lemons into lemonade.

But if all he brings to the table are boasts about not being the father, well, then he should get ready for questions about how literal his love songs are regarding his relationship with Selena Gomez. Once you open the door and make your private life the subject of your professional endeavors, there's no turning back.

Who knew Tank had jokes? Since everybody else already put int heir 2 cents around the net, The sexy R&B singer went on the radio and let Brian McKnight have it for his new XXX track "If You're Ready To Learn." Listen inside.....
I take it that Tank won't get a Christmas card from Brian McKnight this year because the crooner let him have it on Chicago radio earlier.
As a guest of The Morning Riot, Tank complained about the death of R&B saying that Chris Brown and Usher are the only ones who get their R&B records played. This lead to a discussion of Brian whom they felt must be feeling some kind of pressure to get airplay now that he is making dirty records.
Tank & the crew said B. McKnight is too old and established to be doing this b.s. and should stay in his lane. Then started singing dirty songs "opera style" to show that sometimes, two styles of music DO NOT mix.
Listen to Tank clown Brian McKnight here:
In other Brian McKnight news........
Brian's venture down the XXX path is opening up a whole new fan base as he was asked to perform "If You're Ready to Learn" at the 2012 Adult Video News Awards (AVN).
Hmmm......wonder if he will spice it up with a live acted-out performance of the song? That would be the perfect audience for it.
