John Mayer Snags #1 Debut With Born And Raised

Adele's 21 continues its astonishing run with a 65th week in the top five.

<P>The new-and-improved <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/mayer_john/artist.jhtml"><B>John Mayer</B></a> appears to agree with his fans, since the formerly mouthy guitar-slinger's latest, <a href="/news/articles/1685535/john-mayer-born-and-raised-review.jhtml"><I>Born And Raised</I></a>&#8232;, will debut at the top of the <I>Billboard</I> 200 next week. Mayer's fifth solo disc will become his third to come in at the top of the charts thanks to sales of 219,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.</P><P>Well behind him was <B>Adele</B>, whose <I>21</I> continues to astonish, moving nearly 56,000 copies in its 66th week on the charts. In fact, since its February 2011 release, <I>21</I> has only fallen out of the top five one time on its way to more than 9.2 million in sales.</P><P>The top 10 also saw the debut of the latest solo effort from guitar hero <B>Slash</B>, <I>Apocalyptic Love</I> (#4, 38,000), Christian rockers <B>MercyMe</B>, <I>Hurt &amp; the Healer</I> (#7, 33,000) and singer/songwriter <B>Sara Bareilles</B>, <I>Once Upon Another Time</I> (#8, 31,000). The rest of the top 10: <B>Carrie Underwood</B>, <I>Blown Away</I> (#3, 45,000), <B>One Direction</B>, <I>Up All Night</I> (#5, 37,000), <B>Lionel Richie</B>, <I>Tuskegee</I> (#6, 33,000), <I>NOW 42</I> (#9, 31,000) and <B>Norah Jones</B>, <I>Little Broken Hearts</I> (#10, 28,00).</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="John Mayer - &quot;Shadow Days&quot;" id="vid:762832" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>It was a big tumble for former "American Idol" runner-up <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lambert_adam_american_idol_/artist.jhtml"><B>Adam Lambert</B></a>, whose second major-label album, <I>Trespassing</I>, slipped 71 percent in its second week and 10 spots to #11 on sales of 22,000, while "Idol" finalist <B>Haley Reinhart</B>'s debut, <I>Listen Up!</I> debuted at #16 (20,000). Both had better weeks than Lambert's former rival, "Idol" champ <B>Kris Allen</B>, who showed up at #25 with his second album, <I>Thank You Camellia</I> (16,000).</P><P>Elsewhere, <B>Gotye</B> pal <B>Kimbra</B> broke into the charts at #13 with <I>Vows</I> (22,000) and joke rock duo <B>Tenacious D</B> had one of the week's biggest drops, with <I>Rize of the Fenix</I> sinking 24 spots from its debut to #28 (14,000). In the wake of <a href="/news/articles/1685459/robin-gibb-bee-gees-charts.jhtml"><B>Robin Gibb</B>'s death</a>&#8232; fans were motivated to check out <I>Ultimate Bee Gees</I>, which had a 291 percent sales increase to enter the charts at #47 on sales of just under 9,000.
