On his 18th birthday, we take a look at the superstar's upcoming acting gigs.

By this point, it's no secret that Justin Bieber has his sights set on the silver screen. Ever since his meteoric rise to stardom and his success with the concert film "Never Say Never," talk has circulated about his first dramatic film projects.
Now, on his 18th birthday, let's take a closer look at Bieber's big-screen potential!
We got an early look at his acting chops on an episode of "CSI," in which he played troubled teen Jason McCann and was famously blown away in a hail of gunfire. The cameo indicated his purported desire to take on darker roles, along the lines of those played by Mark Wahlberg.
The most concrete movie project on the horizon for Bieber actually involves Wahlberg. The two have been developing a basketball movie, in the vein of "The Color of Money." Wahlberg will play a weathered baller who takes a younger player (Bieber) under his wing.
MTV News spoke with Wahlberg about the project, and he said his interest in working with the pop star comes from his intuition about Bieber's acting ability. "I see the guy and spent time with him, and you see what he does and how he does it," Wahlberg said. "Then you actually have a conversation with him, and it's there."
The basketball project is currently in development at Paramount.
Another Wahlberg-related project with Bieber's name attached is a rumored remake of the 1996 film "Fear." MovieWeb reported back in January that Bieber is supposedly "obsessed" with the movie and hopes to land the psychotic role to mirror Wahlberg's career path. There hasn't been an update on the remake's progress since.
Happy 18th birthday, Justin Bieber! Now that we've counted down the superstar's 18 greatest moments, stick with MTV News as we celebrate the milestone all day.

Simpson addresses Mayer's Playboy comments, Billy Corgan on 'The View.'
By Jocelyn Vena

It seems like all anyone wants to talk to Jessica Simpson about is her love life. Is she still angry that John Mayer dished about their sex in Playboy? Is she dating Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan? And while she is now able to laugh off Mayer's comments about her, she neither confirmed nor denied that she's romantically involved with Corgan when she stopped by "The View" on Monday (March 15). "Yes, my phone has been ringing. It's more embarrassing 'cause I'll walk into a restaurant or something and I'll notice more men are looking at me," she said of the response to Mayer's comments, which included calling her "sexual napalm." "And he'll never have this napalm again. Well, [I don't need to curse him out], that's why I do shows like this!" She added that while they were dating, the only "stupid" comment he made to her was that they should break up. "He did apologize, but I mean, at this point it doesn't really matter," she said. "I mean, I only thought he was stupid for breaking up with me."

So with her romance with Mayer behind her, is she dating Corgan, who helped her on the track for her new VH1 show, "The Price of Beauty"? "I can't meet anybody! I'm marrying them the next week," she said. "Billy is one of my dear friends and he did help arrange the song. He understands my heart and knew what I wanted to do." Simpson also addressed her weight — "I don't want to be [very thin] ... it's not worth it." — as well as her new TV show, she also looked to the future, which she hopes will include kids. "I can't wait to have kids. Well, honestly, if I don't have kids by the time I'm 40, my best friend [and hairstylist] Ken Paves and I are going to have children," she said. "Oh no! I'm not pregnant!"

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones' Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin's IV, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, The Clash's London Calling, New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream's Screamadelica, Pink Floyd's The Division Bell, Blur's Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head. Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery. "Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time." Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date." "We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."

With its second season already a certified hit, it's no surprise that "The Voice" is coming back for a third season. Rumor had it last week that Christina Aguilera had already signed her contract to continue working as a judge for a third season, and now there's word that the rest of the gang — Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — have all re-upped their deals as well.

According to TheWrap, all four judges re-signed with the show and will receive substantial salary increases for doing so. Aguilera will reportedly bank around $10 million, while Green, Levine and Shelton are expected to bring in $6 million. The next step in moving forward with the third season will be to lock down a time slot and premiere date; NBC is expected to make a formal announcement very soon. Insider sources claim the show will be back in the fall to compete directly with Fox's "X Factor." "The Voice" has proven to be a major hit for NBC. The season-two premiere following the Super Bowl on Sunday earned NBC's best ratings for an entertainment show in six years and after airing only three episodes, the singing competition has the highest averaging ratings on television. No mentions or announcements have been made about the show's other on-air talent, host Carson Daly and new social-media correspondent Christina Milian, but given the current popularity of the show, we wouldn't expect NBC to shake things up the way Fox has with "X Factor," which lost judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones after its debut season. Are you happy all four "Voice" judges will be back? She's back! Ten months after welcoming twins Moroccan and Monroe, Grammy-winner Mariah Carey returned to the stage last night, performing at New York's Gotham Hall. Though her kids didn't make an appearance, they were definitely in her thoughts.
"Do I bring dem babies out?" the 'We Belong Together' singer asked the crowd. "They should be in bed! I really wanted to bring them here tonight, but Monroe is sometimes shy and takes a while to warm up to an audience."

The O.D.: A Mixtape Exclusive Sure, Wiz Khalifa was only 5 years old when Snoop Dogg first stepped onto the scene as a guest on Dr. Dre's 1992 classic "Deep Cover," but the two cannabis-loving MCs won't let their respective ages get in the way of collaboration. Wiz and Snoop will star alongside each other in the upcoming Dylan Brown-directed stoner comedy "Mac and Devin Go to High School" as well as on its smoked-out soundtrack.

Mixtape Daily caught up with the Doggfather and Khalifa on the set for "Young, Wild and Free," the soundtrack's official first single, and got the scoop on the rest of the LP. "We got the homey Juicy J on the soundtrack, we got Curren$y on the soundtrack, but mainly it's just me and Dogg," Wiz revealed. Overall, Khalifa is just hyped up to work with one of his idols. They linked on Wiz's "Black & Yellow" remix, Snoop's "This Weed Iz Mine," as well as a bunch of underground songs like "That Good" and "French Inhale." "It's a real big deal because nobody's done it like that as far as a veteran in the game, an OG, a pioneer and then the newest, youngest, most exciting dude in rap coming through and really just giving people a complete project," Wiz said. "I'm a fan of it, separate myself from making it, [I'm] a huge fan of it. Can't wait." As far as the musical vibe of the soundtrack, a laidback Snoop tried his best to describe it. "It's something to relax you and get you through the day; it's some real good music. The music is quality, I don't even have no title for it, as far as what kinda music is it, it's centric, it's ...," Dogg said searching for the right words before his partner-in-rhyme lent a hand. "Eclectic," Wiz chimed in. "Yeah, that's probably what it is," Snoop finished.

For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines.

In a sea of A-list contributions for will.i.am's forthcoming solo album, the Black Eyed Peas mastermind recently dropped one name that will really get pop fans excited. Speaking with Capital FM, will teased that his Femme Fatale collaborator Britney Spears will make an appearance on the album, dubbed #willpower.

"I have a song with Alicia Keys — me, Alicia and Swedish House Mafia. I have a song with the Beats, which is pretty grand. Me and Shakira have been trying to finish the stuff we started, and me and Britney is really crazy," he said. "So we got a song with me, LMFAO and Eva Simons, a song with me and Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz — I got a whole other bunch of collaborations." Spears and will.i.am last worked together on "Big Fat Bass," a spacey, grinding party tune complete with clapping noises and some rapping from will himself. Their recording session was featured on the MTV special "I Am the Femme Fatale." There's been no word yet from will's camp about the song and whether this is a new track or if he will be including "Big Fat Bass" on the album. The rapper/producer's love for Brit is hardly anything new: He gushed to MTV News about the pop princess months after they recorded together. "[I discovered] her love for music. I never seen anyone, like, come alive, full of excitement and giggling and laughing behind the mic," will recalled to MTV News. "She was like a little kid when she was recording the song, and it just brought the whole atmosphere, it changed the whole atmosphere when someone really loves music. So it was great working with her." His latest single, "T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)," featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, dropped late last year. #willpower, which also features "X Factor" judge Nicole Scherzinger, will be released later this year. What are you expecting from will and Brit's collabo? Grammy winner announces granuloma diagnosis after series of concert cancellations

Singer/guitarist John Mayer has enjoyed a long, Grammy-filled career thanks to his bluesy rasp. But after canceling a series of recent performances to rest his voice, Mayer announced that he had gone under the knife to correct a throat problem that had laid him low. Mayer was diagnosed with granuloma (throat inflammation) just above his vocal cord last month and has been ordered to take complete vocal rest for at least a month after the surgery. "I wanted to give you an update on the granuloma just above my vocal cord," Mayer wrote on his Tumblr. "I had surgery this afternoon to remove it and am now on complete vocal rest for a month or more. It's been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but even given two weeks' voice rest (along with many other approaches), there was no change for the better." Mayer canceled some performances last month, including an appearance at the first-ever iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas as well as a show with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles. In addition, his upcoming fifth album, Born and Raised, which was originally slated for release this fall, has been pushed back to next year. "I should be frustrated but I can't seem to stop thinking about beautiful things," Mayer continued. "I never thought I'd be wishing I could do what I love again; I stay in at night, picking guitar parts off of records and dreaming of playing on the big stage. The only difference between now and when I was 18 is that now I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it."

Former "Newlyweds" stars, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, are heading back down the aisle — although not with each other. About a week after Simpson's ex-husband announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend and former MTV "TRL" host Vanessa Minnillo, the singer and mogul's rep confirmed Sunday (November 14) that she is slated to swap vows with her boyfriend, Eric Johnson.

"Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged!" her rep told People. Simpson and Johnson, a football player, have been dating since May. The star recently shared her upcoming Thanksgiving plans and revealed she and her athlete fiancé would spend the holiday together. "We're all gonna be in New York," she told People last month. "I'm gonna be on a [Macy's parade] float. It's not always the best way to spend a Thanksgiving, but it's a great way to celebrate. So, maybe I'll just have all families on the float." Although rumors have cropped up suggesting Simpson is heartbroken her former hubby is set to tie the knot with Minnillo, the entertainer recently shot down reports that she had issues with Lachey's engagement. "I don't know where all those rumors came from," Simpson told Ryan Seacrest on Thursday. "My mom actually called me and said that everyone was saying that I was 'saddened.' I was just in complete shock. I couldn't be more happy for Nick." She maintained the drama between the two has long since passed, and had nothing but positive things to say about Lachey and his lady. "Our relationship was over a really long time ago, and it would be nice if everyone could move on with us and really just celebrate the love between him and Vanessa," she said. "I do, and I wish them nothing but the best." Share your well-wishes for the couple in the comments!

Ryan Seacrest and Sacha Baron Cohen at the Oscars on Sunday

Who better to try to flap than the unflappable Ryan Seacrest? If he could put up with Simon Cowell's constant attacks for nearly a decade, surely the 'Crest could handle a sneak attack from the Dictator.
And, true to his laser-focus reputation, when Sacha Baron Cohen's Dictator ash-bombed Seacrest on the Oscars red carpet on Sunday night, the "American Idol" host kept his composure. After all, he had to know that SBC was not just going to show up in costume, but was very likely going to create one of his infamous scenes to drive up some hype for his upcoming tyrant spoof.
"I was surprised, but not surprised. I definitely did not know that he was going to do that," Seacrest said on Monday morning (February 27) on his radio show, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest," about his surprise when Cohen "accidentally" spilled an urn filled with the purported ashes of late North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il on the TV presenter's tux. "He comes over and I asked him a couple of questions but ... you know that feeling in your gut."
Knowing that Cohen was not going to let him off that easy, Seacrest said in the back of his mind he kept thinking, "This guy isn't coming as the Dictator to not do something ... you know in your gut, you feel like, 'This is going too normally.' " And then when he saw the urn come out, Seacrest could see something coming. "It was getting closer to my chest and then it tipped over. And it wasn't the wind. He spilt it on my tuxedo."
Did we mention Seacrest is hard to rattle? The consummate professional didn't flinch because he smartly followed the advice his mother, Connie, gave him long ago when he was just a wee wannabe presenter: " 'You always want to have two jackets. You never know what's going to happen. You never know what you're going to spill on yourself and you want to be red carpet-ready at all times. That's your job.' So I had another jacket." Seacrest had a great attitude about the gag, which drew a thumbs-up from some of the other celebs MTV News talked to at Elton John's annual Oscar-viewing party and charity gala.
How do you think Ryan Seacrest handled Sacha Baron Cohen's stunt? Leave your comment below!

Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism 'a drag.'
By Gil Kaufman

To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears.

"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making. "The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important." It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, Born to Die, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico. The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the Billboard albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or middling reviews
of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky "Saturday Night Live"
debut last month. The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told The Hollywood Reporter. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told Rolling Stone that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that." Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with. Musically, he thinks Die is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her — she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."
